perfection

I once used to believe that things could be perfect.

I have since realized that when I find a moment of perfection, it is actually a combination of non-perfect things: self & environmental love, determination, contentment, and sensory load. with that I also came to the realization that perfection is not an achievable constant, rather only a fleeting experience.

there is a theory called godel’s incompleteness theorem that describes a phenomena where no system can be both complete (successful) and correct (perfect). going further, it states that it is impossible to find a complete and consistent set of axioms for all mathematics. (governing dynamics)

converting this theorem to reality, it proposes that if a system is perfect it cannot be complete, and will very quickly become useless. a great system is one that is iterated & improved constantly to always achieve the highest levels of success. if you have a so-called perfect system, it won’t allow you to reach your goals, due to the simple fact that you will not be constantly iterating to keep up with the only constant in life: change.

if one is to believe that perfection is achievable - then they are really just settling. I say that because if one is to be able to believe that something is finite and perfect - they no longer believe it can be improved - and everything can be improved. thus, by this logic, if you have been chasing the achievement of perfection in your life, you have been wasting your time.

but here comes the paradox - it is the pursuit of the idea of perfection that makes us want to achieve great things. no two moments will ever be the same, therefore no moment can ever be truly perfect by comparison, only by its own merit.

enjoy the little victories, savor those perfect moments, and strive to one day live a life that is filled with pockets of it. I long to linger in zones of flow, moments of bliss, and instances of contentment - but know they will come to an end - and that is what makes them beautiful.

I feel a compulsive need to remind myself that life is a series of finite & infinite games in search of these grand moments of perfection. but also am keen to use this as ammunition to build a more complete system for sustained success.
